Busta Jones - Keep on Making me hot (Make It Funky edit)

Busta Jones - Keep on making me hot (Make It Funky Edit) by James DB

A massive slice of disco from the eponymous album by Busta Jones from 1980. Tweaked using the loop feature on Serato, whilst sitting by the pool in Koh Samet... Currently working my way through Thailand and Malaysia and with lots of time on my hands there will be plenty more Make It Funky edits coming your way very soon.

Curtis Mayfield - Toot An' Toot An' Toot (Make It Funky Edit)

Curtis Mayfield - Toot An' Toot An' Toot (Make It Funky Edit) by James DB

Make It Funky Favourite: A special one for you, from the amazing 1981 album Love Is The Place, this lesser known (well it took me a long time to find it) soul/funk bomb is probably my favourite Curtis Mayfield tune (big shout i know...)

There's not much you can do to make this any better, so I've just looped a few bits to make it easier to mix and changed the arrangement a touch.
all done in one take using the loop feature on Serato.

I hope you enjoy it as much as i have the original over the years. Go buy the album. you won't regret it

Melba Moore - Standing right here (Make It Funky edit)

Melba Moore - Standing right here (Make It Funky edit) by James DB

Make It Funky Favourite: classic disco action from 1977 on Buddah Records. written and produced by McFadden, Whitehead and Carstarphen.

I (controversially I'm sure) never liked the chorus, so have taken it out and turned it into more of a disco groover. I hope you like it...

edited in one take looping live using Serato, so it's a little rough (as always). I'll tidy it up one day...

Jonathan Jackson Tarr - I got to wonder

Jonathan Jackson Tarr - I got to wonder by James DB

I've got something very special for you this week... It's hot off the press, in fact it's pre-press, having been recorded just last week.

It's by the immense Jonathan Jackson Tarr (AKA Tarrbaby), one of London's best kept secrets (although not for long, I'm sure). An immensely talented guy, who guested on the latest Nextmen Album.

Managed to persuade him to let me share this with you lot, even thought the vocals are still not finished.

If anyone fancies doing an edit, let me know, send it over and I'll pass it on. he's keen to hear retakes.

all feedback welcome

Marvin Gaye - Praise

Make It Funky Favourite: Marvin Gaye - Praise from the 1981 album In Our Lifetime. The groove is so tight on this and I love the layered vocals. There's a real gospel feel, over a seriously funky disco groove. Special tune, this...

The Who vs Ozomatli - Eminence Suite (Make It Funky Demo Edit)

The Who vs Ozomatli - Eminence suite (Make It Funky Demo Edit)  by  James DB

A very rough new Make It Funky Edit featuring an often overlooked Who tune, Eminence Front with the dulcet tones of Chali 2na from Ozomatli's Cut Chemist Suite. Discovered the loop button on serato and just messed about. Recorded the instrumental looping it live then dropped the acapella afterwards. This is a very rough edit. will do a better version when i get the time... let me know your thoughts

Chic - Burn Hard Touchsoul Edit

Chic - Burn Hard by James DB

Make It Funky Favourite: From the album Take It Off on released on Atlantic in 1981. Dripping with the kind of funk that kept production duo Rogers and Edwards busy in the late 70's and early 80's. This cracking edit has been done by Touchsoul

Roots Manuva vs The Barkays - Too hot to witness (Make It Funky edit)

Roots Manuva vs The Barkays - Too hot to witness (Make It Funky edit) by James DB

Make It Funky Favourite: Classic funk & classic hip hop - an unbeatable combination. Calling it an edit is probably stretching it... It's the start of the original Barkeys tune, mixed into the Jesterman's Bionic Barkay rub, then mixed back into the original again. Don't do editing software so all done the old school way, using vinyl.

To download the 320kbps mp3, all I ask is that you spread the word by clicking on the button below and "paying with a tweet or facebook post"

Don't want to tell others? Well that's not very nice! However if that's case you need to follow me on soundcloud and for future edits I'll make them private and downloadable for a few days (usually on a Friday) before making them public to the rest of the world.
